When it's worth changing the lock
If you don't know how many copies of your key exist, you don't know who can get in. It happens when you buy a resale property, when tenants change or after several seasons of holiday letting.
Often you don't need to replace the whole lock: swapping the cylinder for a security cylinder is enough. We tell you what your door needs and why.
Common situations
- You've just bought or rented a property.
- You've lost your keys or they were stolen along with documents showing your address.
- There's been an attempted break-in and the lock has been damaged.
- A change of tenants or the end of the season in a holiday apartment.
- The lock is worn, the key is hard to turn or it doesn't close properly.
- You want to switch to a code or app-controlled lock.

Good to know
Cylinder or complete lock
If the lock works well, changing just the cylinder is usually enough and costs less.
Key copies
Security cylinders usually come with an ownership card: copies can only be made by showing it.
What to have ready
Access to the door, a document showing you're the owner or tenant and, if possible, a photo of the lock beforehand.
What affects the price of a lock change
- Whether only the cylinder or the complete lock is replaced.
- The security level of the chosen model.
- The type of door and whether it needs adjustments or preparatory work.
- Whether it's a night-time or public-holiday emergency.
A fixed quote up front: you know the price of each option before choosing. If you're not convinced, nothing is fitted.

FAQ: lock change
How long does it take to change a lock?
A cylinder is changed quickly. A complete or multi-point lock takes longer, depending on the door. We tell you when we give you the quote.
I'm a tenant: can I change the lock?
Usually you agree it with the landlord. If they authorise it, we make the change and give you the keys and the invoice.
Can you change it the same day?
In most cases yes, even as an emergency. For special models we may need to order the part.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Our work is guaranteed and we always issue an invoice.
